Wind Post (TSWP)

Wind Posts are a structural element made of galvanized or Stainless steel that can be installed during the construction of masonry walls to increase wall panel’s lateral stability against horizontal forces, mainly imposed by wind, crowd or handrail loads.

Wind posts span vertically between floors then fixed with specifically designed top and bottom connection plates to suit most requirements – e.g. fixing to the underside of the concrete floor slab at the top and the top of concrete floor at the bottom, wind posts may be used for example in the centre of a long solid panel of masonry.

At Tate Steel we manufacture a wide range of wind posts with a variety of top and bottom connections to choose from to suit the requirements of your build. The wind post can also be supplied with a pack of masonry ties to tie the post into the masonry wall mortar joints.

L Section Post

The L section windposts are designed to fit into the internal blockwork and bolted to the structure via the specified fixings. The system is designed with the relevant wall ties to ensure correct embedment into the external and internal leaf transferring the loads applied from the masonry cladding back to the structure. Windpost systems are designed specifically to site requirements.

C Section Post

The C section windposts are designed to reduce on site cutting, as the vertical post is positioned within the cavity and bolted to the structure via the specified fixings. The system is designed with the relevant wall ties to ensure correct embedment into the external and internal leaf transferring the loads applied from the masonry cladding back to the structure. Windpost systems are designed specifically to site requirements.

Box Section Post

The box section post is typically positioned within the cavity to enhance structural integrity. Its heavy-duty nature makes it ideal for high load scenarios. Wall ties can be fixed directly to the post structure, providing additional stability and preventing lateral movement of the masonry.

Spine Post

The Spine post is designed to be used within the internal blockwork wall positioned within the vertical joint offering a cost effective solution where low wind load occurs. Windpost systems are designed specifically to site requirements.

Fixing Details

Top Cleats
The vertical post is designed with two holes at the top integrate with the vertical slots within the top cleat to ensure it has the adjustment needed for onsite tolerances. There are various designs of the top cleat available depending on the structure and site design.

Concrete
Fixed using M12 expansion anchors to the underside of the concrete structure. Ensure that correct edge distances are maintained for the fixings.

Steel
Fixings types will be detailed on the drawing, depending on the profile of the steel beam. Due to dissimilar material between the stainless steel should be isolated from the structure.

Timber
Depending on whether its a joist or wall plate, will determine the top cleat type. Threaded bars will be supplied to be fixed through the timber and hex nuts to be placed on either. The timber should be specified by the project engineer to withstanding the applied loads.

Our Accreditations

We hold a UK Certificate of conformity Factory Production Control to Harmonised Standard BS EN 1090-1:2009 +A1:2011 (Load bearing structural steel components up to EXC 2 according to BS EN 1090-2)

This certification covers our masonry support systems up to execution class 2 and therefore, we now offer a UKCA mark for these products in accordance with declaration method 3a.

We also hold a Gold level certification from Constructionline, this shows our commitement to ensuring all our onsite H&S procedures are up to the correct standard.
